WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS, YOU PAINT THAT SHIT GOLD

Atmosphere's new album is tight. Pretty heavy on the usual: unnervingly general stories about average struggling couples—he does this she does that he thinks this she thinks that—not very diverse in the spectrum of subject matter. But, Ant's beats are tight—completely not what I expected judging from the the Strictly Leakage mixtape, yea it was a freebee but it was supposed to show a little of what to come. Anyway, it's different, regardless of the subject matter. For example, Guarantees is all acoustic with Slug vocals. Pretty different.

Here's one of my favorites, it's about a prostitute that can't get away from "skinny white dick," you know, the usual.

Also, on the subject of painting things gold, the following Macbook Air has been coated with an extra layer of 24-karat gold, making it $8,000!

Plus, it also has the Classic Apple rainbow logo logo on the back.

Louis La Roché / Heartsrevolution / Bumblebeez / Atmosphere Italy

New dance music! As most people mildly affiliated with April music Blogosphere knows that Louis La Roché is here to stay. He's definitely got down the whole thing of "loop a 60s soul sample, make it quarter-pulsingly potent, and add some boom-bap," and BAM! You have resurrected French house.

Here's my personal favorite:

Louis La Roché - Do You Remember?

Click here to download the EP.

Heartsrevolution is back! They have a new, EXTREMELY limited edition EP (500 COPIES!!!!!!!!) out now. So, cop it, even though it is £20!

Here's a track off it:

Hearts Revolution

Everyone remembers Disco Sirens, right? Well, I just found out who was doing the vocals. It's Vila of Bumblebeez. Jeez that site is crazy. They're tight and they are from Australia.

Bumblebeez - Rio

But it really sucks that the D.A.N.C.E. remix is offline on both its sites!!

Atmosphere Italy is a Italian disco house group that is completely (well, not completely) undiscovered awesome group!

SANTOGOLD HAS FINALLY BROKEN OUT OF THE HIPSTER MUSIC BLOGOSPHERE SCENE!!

So… it appears I'm not actually the first person to discover this, but, I'ma just put it out anyway. See, everyone saw it coming. Spin proclaimed her the "Next Big Thing," she got the Kanye "THIS MAY BE THE BEST THING EVER!" bump, and she even made some people jealous, who claimed she "jacked M.I.A.'s," and if you can believe it, Tegan & Sara's styles. Santogold just has that intelligent but very catchy and very innovative tinge that got M.I.A. out of the same aforementioned safety net. So, ladies and gentlemen, Santogold has been applied to a Bud Light commercial.

NEW HIPSTER RAP!!!

NEW FACTZ SONG!

Mickey Factz needs no introduction, seeing as he's featured in
a few other of my posts
. Just know that he's the next new fast-talking, Supra-wearing, Royksopp-bootlegging hipster rapper to watch.

"Automatic," featuring Curtis Santiago.

NEW COOL KIDS!

Yet another tight hipster anthem built off early 90s punchlines, such as Sir Mix-a-lot's "Clockin lots a dollars but we all got gold."

The Cool Kids - Oscar Thanks GvB.

Also, this is apparently a remix of the Cool Kids' song called, "Pump Up the Volume," although the actual song doesn't have that much of the original. Whats more, its remixed by the Seattle inhabiting, Rhymesayers-signed, abstract rap group called Grayskul. Who would've thought?

The Cool Kids - Pump Up the Volume (Grayskul remix)

"NEW" BUSY P & MURS COLLABO

Sure, I'm about a week and a half late, but no matter. This song is sick. Busy P Production: Absolutely top-notch. Murs rapping: introduces the prospect of hipsters and blogs being injected into Hip-Hop. Awesome! Then, he also gets a bit overzealous in the big dick department, comparing it to the size of Texas when told that dames get naked.

Busy P featuring Murs - To Protect & Entertain

That'll be it!

Capital Hill Block Party Lineup!!!

For all you Seattle-dwelling, 4th page google search result delving, Capital Hill Block Party no-lifers (mean pun intended), behold—Chromeo, Vampire Weekend, Girl Talk, Hold Steady!!! Chromeo, this is a breakthrough—surprisingly not a punkish or corny-ass Seattle local and relatively trivial hip-hop act, and rather a new dance-punk overly remixed apparent down-getters. Totally un-block-party-like. As for Vampire Weekend and the Hold Steady—well, I'll have to admit if I actually want to take myself seriously as a blogger, I should probably brush up on the one song that I have by them. And as for Girl Talk, well let's just hope he's not lumped with the barely over 21 year-olds and their whole Neumos crowd.

As for this 100% exclusive Block Party flyer courtesy of Fuzed Music mailing list, pretty cool, huh!

Bumbershoot 2008 Sneak Peak!!!!!!!

The good folks at One Reel have just dropped off the first 31 (yeah i counted them) drops of the Bumbershoot 08 lineup!!!

It includes Beck, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Saul Williams, !!!, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Lucinda Williams, Neko Case, and a bunch of other names I didn't recognize. Anyway, OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!! Sorry for the girly response..had to get it out. The initial reaction usually proceeds in that kind of fashion.

Click here to get the "full" lineup.

Too bad they released this information also on the website, and not just the BumberFan emails, cuz then there would be a chance someone would actually be reading this. Oh god, did I just pull the old "Does anyone actually read this blog?" self-pitying whimper that all bloggers do sometime in their career? But it's true. The only actual reason I keep posting these is so that eventually, perhaps I'll show up on the blogosphere radar..no?

Jaylib - No $ No Toke

Until about two weeks ago give or take, i originally thought I was the only one who it occurred to to make a remix of Jaylib's "No $ No Toke," seeing as it's one of those very, very good tracks that somehow tends to fall under the radar and instead give way to more trivial (in my mind) tracks like "Monkey Suite." (That song was not actually on the same volume, but the same series!) Anyway, I WAS FIRST!! No not really—I have no idea. But I'd like to think that I was. *Sigh* But alas, "Hayzee" planted his stake on the mountain first. Granted the only reason I even found out about this remix is because I delved about 2 pages into a google search entitled, "no $ no toke remix." Also granted, all I did to the track was poorly beatmatch it to a 120BPM Hot Fuk beat, AND a Big Beat beat, then make some weird edits, and leave it at 1:20, but, all things considered, perhaps I pulled it off..??

Anyway, here are the tracks…

No $ No Toke

Here's the Hayzee remix via Appletree podcast (from zShare, damn that took a long time), but also, it's the last song. Tracklist here.

Shapeshifters - Circuit City / Bell Biv DeVoe - That Girl is Poison

Somehow this song seems like it could've been made in like 1993, except for the fact that they say, "Party like it's 1999." It was actually made in 2004. Shapeshifters are an 8-piece electro-club-rap collective from L.A.

Circuit City

Bell, Biv, & DeVoe at the 2001 Radio Music Awards!

I first heard this song on Scrubs when Turk additions for Ted's air band. (Somehow the person that uploaded the video thought the song was "Biel da Voe" by BBD!) Anyway, the song was released in 1990 under Geffen. More recently, Mano has released a remix. Is it just me, or does every new remixer (other than me) have at least one song featuring that immediately recognizable beat that sounds like a 120BPM version of Funky Drummer often tagged as "B'More edits" and initiated (I think) by Diplo, as exemplified by remixes as Stronger (Diplo WORK IS NEVER OVER), Santogold - Creator(Scottie B remix)???? Anyway, here are some links.

That Girl is Poison (Million $ Mano remix)

Sorry but I feel i gotta provide simply iTunes links…

Midfield General - Disco Sirens / Digikid.84 - B.Boy Underground

Midifeld General - Disco Sirens

This song is crazy! "I'm in love with the disco sirens!!" over some fake funky bassline and a quivering bass drum. Now, anyone mildly affiliated with the 2007-08 dance music scene knows that only one act can pull this off and that is Justice. Then upon further research, sure enough! Produced by Justice. But Midfield is a DJ, right? So if Justice is producing, and who knows who is doing those exceptionally stressed-out vocals, then what is Midfield General doing? Anyway, it's fucking incredible.

A couple days ago I discovered a Culture Prophet remix of a song called B-Boy Underground by Digikid.84. Then, anxious to here what mastery stemmed off such a remix. I realized shortly after hearing a little bit of the original it that I actually liked the Culture Prophet remix more. Strange isn't it? Anyway, here are both versions.. take your pick.

Digikid.84 - B.Boy Underground (Culture Prophet remix)

On another note, NEW MICKEY FACTZ SONG!! WITH N*E*R*D*!!!! Who would've thought? Actually, judging from his also unexpected "SUPPOSED" (i secretly suspect its bootleg) collabo with Royksopp, people who downloaded his new mixtape would perhaps think, as alluded to in a previous post. Anyway, it's pretty good!

Jorell (feat. Asto - French Kiss (KISS KISS COVER!!!)

Oh my god!!!! Don't know if this has been like totally hyped about already, but I'ma just put it out there anyway.

This is a cover of Chris Brown's "Kiss Kiss," by Jorell and Asto and it's really well done. I have to say, even as a kind of French-speaker, I didn't understand very much of it, but I did pick up "tout les fils"!! Here's Jorell's myspace. He put up the acapella, but the link is apparently not working for me!! (!!!) oh false alarm—it is now! Jorell also seems to be available on French iTunes, but not American iTunes, or any other iTunes for that matter. Shit, I definitely have got the iTunes links down! Especially back in January when I assembled my contribution to the Hype Machine's zeitgeist. Pitiful, isn't it? Somehow they couldn't find the artwork to "the Cool"; they also forgot to include my like three more albums. anyway..i'm gonna go ahead and construct a remix…

Enjoy...

Time Machine - The Groove That Just Wont Stop

Time Machine, The Groove That Just Wont Stop

This song is unbelievably uplifting! Simply don't focus too much on the hideously designed MySpace player. It was the only high quality video i could find that was able to be embedded.

I'll only post the b-side on here cuz you really gotta buy the track on iTunes

The Groove That Just Won't Stop

"new" NERD remix

This remix seems to be a bit late, but, it's very good, so uh… ALL THE GIRLS STANDING IN THE LINE FOR THE BATHROOM.
DAMN that basslines good, especially wit all dat weird editing going on.

Everybody Nose (BASS ILL EURO Juke remix)
Everybody Nose original- Thanks Covert Curiosity, and, uh, mfr

Damn I'm dissapointed to apparently NOT HAVE FUCKING $46!!!!!!!!!!, the absolute rock bottom rite of passage needed to gain access to the show. From there, it rockets its way up to 375 depending on how lavish you want your VIP suite to become, in this case equating to a seat in the first 10 rows, a "pre-show party," a backstage tour, parking (???), "crowd-free merchindise shopping," and, my personal favorite, a "Kanye West exclusive gift bag"!!

What's more, Kanye's gotta ham it up by revealing the ultra extravagant props planned for the shows:

"I can't take it anymore. I have 2 show you guys a model of the stage. This is not a regular show. I tell people, hey, this show is gonna be crazy and they say, "I bet it is!", BUT THEY HAVE NO IDEA! People expect me to come with innovative stuff... I'm sure a lot of people expect some neon, lower east side, post everybody dressing like the 80's stuff or maybe the light up jacket from the Grammies, perhaps the robot girl and light spectacle they saw on Youtube from the European run. My friends..... NONE OF THE ABOVE!!! AN ENTIRELY NEW DESIGNED SET!!! ROBOT DESIGNED BY ACCLAIMED ARTIST CHRISTIAN COLON, CREATURE'S BY THE LEGENDARY JIM HENSON'S CREATURE SHOP, LIGHTING BY MARTIN PHILLIPS AND JOHN McGUIRE RESPONSIBLE FOR LAST YEARS FESTIVAL ANNIHILATOR, DAFT PUNK'S PYRAMID, POSSIBLY THE GREATEST LIGHT SHOW OF ALL TIME"

Then he proceeds to rattle of a string of seemingly impressive names intended to rub it in yet a little more. What's more, two scatily-clad women body-painted with gold seem to also have something to do with it, as exemplified by a classically overblown photo featuring the Kanye sandwiched in between the two aforementioned nymphs.

new hipster rap

I'm not sure if this term is… derogatory, pretentious, or just ultra-trendy, but it encompasses some really good music (i.e., the Cool Kids, Mickey Factz, Santogold, Izza Kizza). Anyway, it's a pretty new phenomenon, so who knows.

On the subject of Izza Kizza , is it just me, or is this dude extremely underrated? I searched on Hype Machine and there were only like 4 posts about him. "I'm the pinch hitter, o-opposite sitter / I'm a lot of things but I'm not a qui-quitter this is baaaddddaaaaasss." Well, at least that's what it sounds like.

Here's a bunch of his songs:

I'm the Izza Kizza (probably one you haven't heard as much—watch me piggy back from "The Sweet Fix")

Also, under hipster rap is Mickey Factz—damn that dude has a lot to say. I just downloaded "Heaven's Fallout, his huge-ass, extremely, extremely DOPE ASS mixtape. "Now, who did I misplease / This is the soundtrack for 2016" over Robot Rock. Kinda speaks for itself huh? Is misplease even a word? Whats more, according to Panda Toes, apparently another version of this track features the two and only: Uffie and Feadz!! But its not the one featured in the mixtape that has a bit of Robot Rock in it, which is produced by Machine Drum. Even worse, throughout the entire song, Uffie's disarming vocals are nowhere to be found!! Also, is it an impending trend to purposefully pronounce "shit" backwards, as in "Talk Your Ish"?

Here some more snippets

Mickey's adaption of SMACKMOBITCHUP
